About David Goldfarb

Throwing pots has been a fascination of mine since being introduced to the potter’s wheel in high school by Tyrone Head. For the past several years, I have been working in places of great natural beauty, part of the time under Annie Schliffer at her studio at the Rochester Folk Art Guild, in Middlesex, and part at home on our wooded property in Mendon. After (mostly) retiring from 35 years of researching and teaching biology at the University of Rochester, I have begun to focus more intently on ceramics. Much of my thrown pieces are influenced by classical Asian forms, but the goal is to develop my own aesthetic, one that can be discovered only with patience through the process of throwing. Mostly, though, I strive to create functional vessels that enhance the food, flowers and plants they are intended to contain.
